Continuing on

Aside from thinking about the next steps for selling the FFB enablers on the Cow store, there hasn't much progress on the projects this week. Thanks to a long weekend I'll be working on the new schematic for the wheel hub, I expect a similar issue that I ran into with the FFB enabler. Missing a trace here and there, a wayward diode causing issues, ect. I hope I've learned enough that this won't actually be an issue 😅

The big task this weekend is interpreting some schematics I'm basing the new PCB on. This is involving porting the physical pins of an arduino nano with the bare IC of the ATmega238P. While this is the same chip the FFB enabler uses, I have to add an I2C io expander chip, something I have never used before. However, I'll be omitting some features from the design, like the LEDs and the 7 segment display. They're not really needed for the function of the wheel when everything can be configured in fanalab these days.

Provided I get this PCB designed the hub will have ports for buttons, rotary switches, encoders and even a D-Pad. Frankly this will be more feature rich than the Podium hub from Fanatec themselves - to an extent with the omitted features. This will still make setting up a custom wheel even easier as all someone will have to do is hookup the switches and encoders they want and mount it to the 70mm pcd of the hub.

Exciting things to come 😁
